analysis of memento pt 1

what makes it a thriller

Cinematogpraphy
the use of close ups and extreme close ups on many occasions aswell asthe
mid shots are some of my favourite things in what makes this a thrilleras the
y bring the audience into the film making them feel like there
there so it
increases the tension.
sound

the variations in the music are typical elements of the thriller genre that help reflect
the pace and emotional intensity within the film

editing
the shots in the film are mainly composed using fast paced cuts

mis-en-scene
the mis-en-scene of the film follows the typical usage of contrasting col
ours
to show good and bad charecters with the main charecter wearing a lightcoloured suit while the bad charecters wear the darker coloured clothes
to help distinguish between them.

The opening sequence

The opening sequence in memento is a very effective one. the opening has has elements of brecht in it as it takes the approach of showing the audience the ending of the film at the beginning so the audience feels the need to continue on watching the rest of the film to make sense of it.

it is a good opening sequence for a thriller because although it shows the films ending it dose'nt give away all the details as to how these two charecters came to be where they where. I also like how it makes small things within it like the glasses against the wall of blood again keeping the audience guessing.
